The Best Things to Do in North Natomas

The suburbs are usually where you go to get away from it all. Quiet streets, laid-back parks and wide-open spaces are a respite from the hustle-and-bustle of the city. This is certainly true of North Natomas, but it’s no sleepy community. It has a vibrant buzz all its own, with bustling shopping centers, great restaurants, and lively community events.

Just 10 minutes from Downtown Sacramento north of 1-80, North Natomas has quickly turned into a destination in its own right. Sure, it still has family-friendly neighborhoods and great schools, but it also has plenty of things to do for grown-ups. From restaurants to shopping to outdoor recreation, there’s truly something for everyone in North Natomas.

Whether you need a little retail therapy, some fresh air and exercise, or a chill spot to hang out with friends or family, following are some of the top things to do in North Natomas.

Enjoy the Outdoors

North Natomas Regional Park

North Natomas Regional Park

Built on former agricultural land, the Natomas area has preserved much of its greenspace in the form of regional and neighborhood parks. If you’re looking to get out and stretch your legs, try North Natomas Regional Park, which has walking trails, a pond and one of the area’s largest dog parks. North Natomas Community Park has a bike trail, lighted tennis courts and a nature area, while Tanzanite Community Park has a skate park and lake. Another good choice is Regency Community Park, which has a bicycle trail and a 9-hole disc golf course.

Meet Your Neighbors

Although North Natomas is more spread out than other communities, it has a close-knit vibe. This is due, in part, to the many community events that are held here. Events include Second Saturday art exhibits, a seasonal farmers’ market, yoga in the park, summer concerts, outdoor movie nights, and much more. There are also holiday events such as Oktoberfest, tree lightings, visits from Santa and holiday pop-up markets.

Enjoy a Meal Out

Some spots to consider are Bella Bru, which serves sandwiches, salads, and comfort food entrees like ribs and meatloaf; Koshi Ramen Bar, which has ramen, rice bowls and appetizers; and The Waffle Experience, a brunch spot with waffle toppings like pulled pork and smoked salmon. Like seafood? You’ll love the Oyster Bar, which serves oysters on the half-shell and every other imaginable way.
