Celebrate Your Gals This Galentine’s Day in Sacramento

Galentine’s Day = Valentine’s Day for your gal pals!
Valentine
’s Day = For your someone special

To some, Valentine’s Day brings up memories of construction paper hearts and chalky candy. To others, it means chocolate dipped strawberries and long-stem roses. But to many others, Valentine’s Day, aka Single’s Awareness Day, is a depressing reminder of their plus-none relationship status.

But whether single or attached, there is still cause for celebration. February 13 is the non-official holiday of Galentine’s Day, a day for women to celebrate their female friendships. Made famous by Leslie Knope in the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation, Galentine’s Day has made its way into popular culture. Even if you have someone special in your life, there’s no reason not to celebrate your lady crew too. But what’s a gal to do? Following are some ideas.

Have a Party

There’s no need to go out this Galentine’s Day — you can host a celebratory event right in your own home. First, start with the decorations. Check out this adorable balloon party box from Soiree Love. You can set a theme for your event: spa day (have guests wear robes and pass out face masks), slumber party (wear pajamas and play truth or dare), or a Parks and Rec marathon complete with trivia.

See Some Art

On Thursday, Feb. 13, the Crocker Art Museum will be open after hours for ArtMix: Big Easy. The New Orleans-style event features live music, street performers, live painting and a visit by the voodoo queen herself, Marie Laveau. Grab the gals and head to Sacramento’s own “Jackson Square” and take advantage of the Bourbon Street Bar. You and your crew can also head to Davis on Friday for the monthly ArtAbout & Wine Walk, where downtown galleries open their doors after hours.

Relax & Unwind

Need a little R&R? There are plenty of opportunities in Sacramento to have a spa day with the girls. Asha Urban Baths has a co-ed bathhouse where you can steam, sauna and soak your way to bliss. At Capitol Floats, you can let go in a stimulant-free float tank. You and the gals can also get pampered at Time Out Spa & Resort in Camino, where you can get a massage, enjoy lunch and sip champagne in the mountain setting.

Get Creative

At Board & Brush in Roseville, you can join in a special Galentine’s Day workshop on Feb. 15 to create your own wooden sign. Propagate plant shop in midtown is hosting a special Galentine’s Day bouquet workshop on Thursday evening. Also on Thursday is a candle pouring workshop at ArtHouse on R Street, where you can also paint your own Valentine’s Day card.

Go Wine Tasting

Sacramento is centrally located near some of the best wineries of the Sierra foothills, meaning there are plenty of options for wine tasting with your gals! Good spots to try include Boeger near Placerville, Great Bear Vineyards in Davis, Miner’s Leap in Clarksburg and Rancho Roble in Lincoln. If you’d rather stick close to home, pay a visit to Bailarin Cellars in downtown Sacramento, known for their Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.

Go Out to Brunch

Brunch is the ultimate Galentine’s Day celebration, according to Leslie Knope. It’s all about “ladies celebrating ladies,” so grab your besties and check out some of the best brunch spots in the greater Sacramento area. Some good bets include Bacon and Butter, The Porch and The Morning Fork, all of which serve mimosas (of course). At The Waffle Experience (which has locations in Natomas, Folsom and Elk Grove), you can get a plain waffle with lots of whipped cream (Leslie’s favorite), as well as savory varieties like braised pork belly or fried chicken.
