After opening its doors last fall, Canon quickly became one of our favorite recent additions to the Sacramento dining scene in 2017. This chef-driven eatery in East Sacramento comes from native Sacramentan and Michelin-star chef, Brad Cecchi, and former LowBrau owner, Clay Nutting. The two created a remarkable restaurant focused on shareable plates, both small and large. The drink menu at Canon perfectly complements the selection of bar bites, from a simple bread plate to chicken drumsticks, and roasted carrots to fresh oysters. You can opt to keep things light or fill up by ordering several plates to split. Plus, the modern and sleek interior at Canon completes the picture-perfect dining experience! Don’t miss Canon’s happy hour Tuesday–Friday from 4–6 p.m.

Midtown’s Cantina Alley

2320 Jazz Alley

It seems Midtown’s Cantina Alley is continuously appearing on prestigious lists even though they just opened last year. In fact, the restaurant is another one of our favorite new restaurants from 2017. Tucked away in Jazz Alley between J and K Streets, this lively cantina serves authentic traditional Mexican street food, tequila-based cocktails, and imported Mexican beers on draft. The airy patio serves as the perfect place to relax with a margarita and some artisan tacos. Just about anything on the menu will complement the drinks at their full bar!

Grange Restaurant and Bar

926 J Street

This high-end bar and eatery nestled in the Citizen Hotel has one of our favorite drink programs in the city. Grange is extremely focused on farm-to-table fare, exemplified in their locally sourced menu and handcrafted cocktails comprised of only the finest and freshest ingredients. One of the best times to visit Grange is during their daily happy hour from 3–6 p.m., which consists of delectable cocktails for $7, wine for $6, and local beer for $5. Grange also serves a selection of discounted plates during happy hour, ranging from $6–12. And from 2:30–11 p.m., order anything from their bar food menu, which includes grilled local artichoke, salmon poke tacos, grilled house flatbread, crab hush puppies, their famous Grange Burger, and much more.

The Shady Lady Saloon

1409 R Street

With its renowned cocktail selection and swanky speakeasy vibes, you may not realize that the Shady Lady Saloon also boasts an exceptional selection of bar bites. Small bites include farmhouse cheddar biscuits, macaroni and cheese croquettes, duck confit tots, housemade pork rinds, fried green tomatoes, and more. And better yet, most of their small bites are available for a discounted price during their weekday happy hour from 3–6 p.m.! This Prohibition Era mainstay provides a chic setting, delicious small bites and an unparalleled cocktail program.
