Among the many reasons we are lucky to live in Sacramento, we have a pretty ideal location. Sacramento is situated about two hours from both the beach and the mountains — two completely different settings with unique sets of outdoor recreation options.

Lake Tahoe is situated amongst the majestic Sierra Nevada, where snow sports enthusiasts travel to from all over the globe. We are fortunate to live within reasonable driving distance from a collection of popular ski resorts, from big names like Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe to smaller resorts, like Sierra-at-Tahoe.

Travel to one of these ski resorts near Sacramento for non-stop snow fun, whether you ski, board, sled, tube or simply like making snow angels!

Nestled just south of Lake Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is the third-largest ski area in the region with over 2,000 acres of slopes and 200 acres of backcountry trails. The mountain offers pristine conditions for skiing and snowboarding in addition to some of the most picturesque views of Lake Tahoe from a peak of 8,852 feet. While there are a plethora of hotels in the area, there are a few recommended hotels close by. Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel is located in the heart of town and Aston Lakeland Village has a free daily shuttle, a full kitchen in each unit, and an in-house rental shop. Speaking of shuttles, there are a number of shuttle bus options for those visiting from the Tahoe area, Sacramento and even San Francisco.

The mountain at Sugar Bowl Resort contains four peaks, 98 trails and 1,650 skiable acres. Sugar Bowl has plenty of terrain to explore — whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced skier or boarder. Make a quick day trip to Sugar Bowl or prolong your stay at their cozy hotel on-site.


Boreal Mountain Resort

Located just down the road from its sister resort, Soda Springs, Boreal Mountain Resort is an easily accessible resort from both Northern California and Nevada. Boreal boasts nearly 80 percent snowmaking coverage, so it is typically one of the first Lake Tahoe resorts to open each winter. It has a mixture of both family-friendly terrain and more advanced trails as well. The Terrain Park has handrails, boxes, a half-pipe and much more, making it a hotspot for “park” skiers and snowboarders. The family play area, called “Playland” offers snow tubing with two moving carpets, groomed tubing lanes, and quality tubes available.


Heavenly Ski Resort
