11 Unconventional Spots to Get Married in the Sacramento Area

So you’ve said “yes.” Congratulations! Now that you’re in the middle of planning — setting a date, booking a florist, and getting the invitations designed — you’ll also have to book a venue. This is possibly the trickiest decision you’ll make for your special day. Are you looking for an all inclusive option? How many people will you need to pack into one room? Does the spot have an indoor alternative in case the weather turns sour?

Amidst the many questions, you’ll also have to ask yourself about your style. Maybe a traditional venue is not what you’re after — maybe you’re the kind of couple who likes to make a statement or go against the grain. If this is the case, look no further. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite unconventional wedding venues in Sacramento, from riverboats and art studios to wineries and Christmas tree farms. You’re bound to find the perfect place to say, “I do.”

The Delta King

This swanky riverboat hotel on front street is a historic Sacramento staple. The King, an authentic, 285-foot boat, took its maiden voyage in 1927 and performed daily excursions between Sacramento and San Francisco until 1940. The trips were 10 ½ hours long and included jazz bands, prohibition-era drinking and fine dining. Though the boat is docked today, not much has changed. If you’re a classic soul perhaps born in the wrong decade, this might be the perfect choice for a venue.

Looking for the perfect photo documentation of your special day? Perhaps opt for a photography studio venue! The warehouse-like space at Studio 817 is filled with abundant natural light and is easy to decorate to your preference with modern accents or vintage accoutrements. And yes, the photos will be stunning.

The possibilities are endless in this 5,200 square-foot warehouse/art gallery. Just imagine how amazing you and your significant other will look framed against the exposed brick! With no restrictions, this is definitely the place to let your creativity reign. Bonus: choose a photographer from the venue’s cooperative for discounts.

Embrace your artsy side with a wedding at the Crocker Art Museum. With several rental options to choose from, including charming outdoor courtyards, a ballroom and the endless galleries inside, you can customize your special day to your heart’s content. As stated on the website, “your wedding is your masterpiece. Let the Crocker be your canvas.”

Scribner Bend Vineyard

This historic property and vineyard is located along the scenic Sacramento River, just a 15 minute drive south from the Capitol. While the 1918 era barn is nothing less than stunning, getting married outside with a backdrop of the vines is our top pick for a California wedding and reception. Plus, you and your guests will have the privilege of enjoying some of the best wines in the area on your special day — now that’s a reason to celebrate.

Casa Garden

The Casa Garden on Sutterville Road is not your typical restaurant — it’s actually an ongoing fundraiser. Monday through Friday, the Garden serves an incredible lunch prepared by more than 225 volunteers in order to benefit the neighboring Sacramento Children’s Home. Diners get an incredible meal in a gorgeous setting, and they can eat well knowing it’s for a good cause. The same applies to your wedding! Opt for a wedding in the gorgeous outdoor setting. You’ll be treated to a delicious menu, stunning scenery and wonderful memories, all in the name of charity.

Vierra Farms

If you’re looking for more of a rustic, farm setting, Vierra Farms might be your best bet. The family-owned produce farm, pumpkin patch and Christmas tree lot is perfect for a wedding at any time of year, offering scenic backdrops and plenty of space for partying.

The Sacramento Zoo

You might have enjoyed meandering through the fun exhibits of the Sacramento Zoo on a weekend or two, but have you ever thought about it as a wedding venue? With several rental options to choose from, including the Rare Feline Center, Gibbons Alley, the Tall Wonders Viewing Deck and the Amphitheater Stage, there are plenty of opportunities to make your wedding the day of your dreams — especially if you dreamed of zebras and jaguars as your guests.

Revolution Wines

This swanky, urban winery might already be your favorite place to split a bottle — and why wouldn’t it be? With wines made in-house from the best California grapes, a stunning space and a delectable farm-to-fork menu, Revolution Wines is at the top of our list for all kinds of gatherings, including your wedding. Wine lovers will adore saying “I do” here — and those barrels will make a great backdrop for your photos.

History buffs will enjoy the possibility of incorporating a bit of California’s storied past into their special day. Located just one block from the state capitol, the California Museum offers multiple indoor and outdoor spaces to rent for your big day. Opt for an all-inclusive package, which provides florals, linens, catering and more for a streamlined planning process.

The Victorian Rose of Biggs

Thought a charming, backyard wedding wasn’t a possibility for you? Think again! This classic Victorian home on the corner of B and 4th Streets was built in 1874, and is privately owned by Wanda and Robert Nevins. The couple has restored the property to its original splendor, and offers the gardens, parlor and dining rooms to you for your wedding. Although it’s an hour outside of the city, we think the adorable, intimate setting is worth the drive.
