Making a Man Cave

With football season kicking into gear and the World Series in sight, men (and women) are finding themselves getting more and more comfy in front of their HD TVs and are incorporating many of the tailgate necessities to create their ultimate happy place.

It only takes a few items to create a sports-friendly, testosterone-infused space. You can think big (like the New Zealand gentleman who created a $50,000-solar powered man cave sphere, complete with 360-degree windows, a beer-dispensing couch, and video projection system) or you can start small. Go basic.

Essential items include a recliner, television, some type of bar or small refrigerator, and bar stools. From there, depending on the room used and overall home decor, you can add sports and movie memorabilia, neon signs and extra seating (more recliners).

If your manly activities aren’t strictly relegated to watching sports or movies, then you can equip for games and hobbies – game systems, a dartboard, poker table, or pool table. For those with big tastes and even bigger budgets, there are projection and surround sound systems, jukeboxes, and classic, old school arcade games.
